Emergency Information

Most Americans who travel abroad never need the services of the U.S. Embassy. But in an emergency, the Consular Section provides valuable assistance to U.S. citizens in Nepal and their families back home. Though the extent of their assistance is sometimes limited by law and regulation, consular officers can help Americans through relatively simple cases like lost or stolen passports or life-and-death situations like helicopter rescues from remote locations. In the event of a large scale emergency like an earthquake, the Consular Section is responsible for ensuring, to the extent possible, the welfare of all Americans in Nepal.

The following general guidance describes a variety of different services available from the Embassy in an emergency. For more detailed information, please contact the Consular Section.
