American Library Kathmandu Celebrates Earth Day
April 23, 2009
Public Affairs Kathmandu’s American Library screened An Inconvenient Truth to commemorate Earth Day. Information Officer Nicole Chulick welcomed 43 students from Kathmandu University School of Education of Environment and Sustainable Development, School of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development, and librarians from government institutions in Kathmandu. She spoke about Earth Day and said that although typically only political news makes the headlines in Nepal, the U.S. Embassy and American Library was holding Earth Day programs in Pokhara and Kathmandu. She also informed the audience of the acquisition of two electric cars by the U.S. Embassy that are used for local deliveries and that help make the Kathmandu environment a little bit cleaner. She then screened the film, an eye-opening and compelling view of the future of our planet – and our civilization -- by former Vice President Al Gore.
