Workshop on Avian Influenza Reporting: An International Experience

May 5, 2009

Public Affairs Kathmandu with the Nepal Media Development Center (NMDC) organized a one-day workshop to enhance the knowledge of 40 reporters who report on health issues.  In this seminar U.S. Speaker Daniel C. Rutz shared tips gained on responsible health reporting from his 20 years of experience as a Senior Health and Medical Correspondent for CNN.  He also encouraged the journalists to be investigative while writing news about this serious issue, in order to protect public health and provide timely, relevant, and science-based information to build public trust.  Two speakers, one from Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and one from the Avian Influenza Monitoring Unit, also gave presentations on “Addressing National Policy and Control of Avian Influenza in Nepal” and “Poultry Industries and Avian Influenza in Nepal.”
