Sherpa Raises Awareness About Climate Change

Acting DCM Mr. Terry White introducing Mr. Dawa Steven Sherpa at the U.S. Embassy's popular Tea and Talk Program who made a captivating presentation about his efforts to clean up Mt. Everest and also raise global awareness and spur actions to address the impact of climate change on the Himalayas.

Dawa Steven is one of the most dynamic and talented young mountaineers in Nepal who has not only scaled Everest twice, but has also galvanized his Sherpa community in the Everest region to conserve this tallest mountain in the planet, which is both a national emblem as well as a world heritage site.

The program was attended by over fifty participant from the environmental community in Kathmandu representing NGOs, I/NGOs and the government; college, university and high school students; and, U.S. Mission staff.
