Information Officer (IO) Nicole Chulick gave a presentation on the changing face of the American media to a class of 18 journalism students at the Nepal Press Institute. During her presentation, the IO briefed the audience on the history of the development of the media in the United States, and she explained how it continues to evolve to this day. Talking about the changes that technology has brought in the media landscape in the United States, the IO cited how newspaper ad revenues have plummeted in the last few years. She discussed how this change has led U.S. media houses to think of new and innovative ways to generate revenue such as through subscriptions to online content. She also talked about the high importance the American government places on freedom of the media and how media has been able to play the role of a watch-dog in democratic societies.
