As part of the Public Affairs Section's ongoing Embassy Speaker Program, Eligible Family Member (EFM) Ms. Monica Rojas addressed a group of 55 students (45 girls) between 14 and16 years of age at a high school in Lalitpur, the second largest city within the Kathmandu Valley. She talked about unique aspects of the U.S. education system and encouraged students to become good citizens.

She also encouraged them to read more books and invited them to visit the Mission’s American Library and use its circulating collection. This underfunded government school had never heard of the library due to few outside resources and contacts.

The students focused their questions on the U.S. educational system and how they might be able to study in the United States. Public Affairs Kathmandu used this visit to promote the American Library, distributing information cards, blank exercise-books, and ball-point pens to the students.
