U.S. WANTS PEACE PROCESS TO WORK

The United States supports the peace process in Nepal and believes it is “crucial for the long-term well-being of Nepal that the Maoists give up their arms and end their extortion.”  R. Nicholas Burns, U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs, made these and other points in a speech on U.S. policy in South Asia to the Asia Society November 27 in Washington, D.C.  Here is the text of his remarks, as prepared for delivery.
