Non-Immigrant Visa
Nonimmigrant visas (NIVs) allow citizens of other countries to visit the U.S. for short periods of time. Some NIVs allow visitors to work or study while in the United States, but these types of visa require special documentation from or processing by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Tourist and business visas (B1/B2 visas) are the most common kind of NIV issued. They do NOT typically allow travelers to work or study in the United States.
Information on various types of visas, as well as entry procedures to the United States at the Port of Entry can be found at http://travel.state.gov
If you fail to show up for your NIV interview
If you fail to show up for your NIV interview on the given date, you can still appear for an interview at a later date without repaying the fee. The MRV appointment receipt remains valid for one year from the date you purchased it from the bank. All you have to do is either email the section at consktm@state.gov or send a fax to 4007281 and your appointment date will be rescheduled.
The Embassy normally remains operational even if there are disturbances in the city. However, if you can’t come for the interview due to disturbances such as a bandh or civil unrest, or if you feel it is unsafe to travel to the Embassy, you can always appear for another appointment date by following the aforementioned procedure.
