Deadline Nears for Democracy Video Challenge

The deadline for submission of this year' s video for the Democracy Video Challenge, an online competition to create a video short that completes the phrase "Democracy is..." is midnight GMT, January 31, 2010. Nepal is among the countries enrolled in the Challenge, and all Nepalis are invited to participate in the contest.
The Challenge invites citizens from around the world to create video shorts (3 minutes or less) that complete the phrase: "Democracy is..." in an effort to enhance the global dialogue on democracy. The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu will select local winners and forward their submissions to Washington DC for final selection among entrants from around the world.
The Democracy Video Challenge is a unique partnership comprising democracy and youth organizations, the film and entertainment industry, academia and the U.S. government. In its inaugural year (2009), the Challenge attracted more than 900 videos from 95 countries around the world.
A Nepali was one of the winners of last year's Democracy Video Challenge. Tsering Choden from Nepal won a trip to the United States, where she, along with the other five winners, met with democracy groups, film and television companies, the media and government organizations and leaders, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Contest Details:
- You must be 18 or older to enter.
- Videos can be any style: fiction or documentary, animatedor live action.
- Videos must be no longer than three minutes.
- Videos must be in English or have English subtitles.
- Contestants may enter anonymously, but anonymous
- winners cannot collect the grand prize.
