September 25, 2008        नेपालीमा

On September 15, 2008, the United Nations’ first International Day of Democracy, the U.S. Department of State and private sector partners launched a worldwide video competition aimed at enhancing the global dialogue on democracy.  Richard Engel, U.S. network NBC's chief foreign correspondent, presided over the event.  U.S. State Department Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs James K. Glassman and Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts delivered remarks to more than one hundred representatives from foreign and U.S. media, civil society, the private sector, partner organizations and UN Missions.

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to confirm that Nepal is among the first countries enrolled in the challenge and all Nepalis are invited to participate in the contest.  The Democracy Video Challenge asks budding filmmakers, democracy advocates, and the general public to create short videos that complete the phrase, “Democracy is…”  The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu will select local winners and forward their submissions to Washington DC for the global challenge.

The challenge was also launched online at www.youtube.com/democracychallenge and at www.videochallenge.america.gov.

CONTEST DETAILS:
