U.S. Embassy Closed for President's Day

February 15, 2008

The U.S. Mission to Nepal will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2008 for President's Day, a national holiday in the United States. President's Day, celebrated the third Monday of February, honors Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Washington was the first President, serving from 1789 - 1797. Lincoln was President during the Civil War (1861-65) between the southern and northern states, which ended with the Union intact and slavery abolished. Lincoln was slain by an assassin.

The Chancery, USAID, and the Consular and Public Affairs Sections are among the components of the Mission and are now located at the new Embassy compound in Maharajgunj.
