CONGRATULATIONS ON DEMOCRACY DAY

The United States congratulates the people of Nepal on Loktantra Diwas (Democracy Day) and the first anniversary of the successful Jana Aandolan II. The people of Nepal took a great step forward on the path toward democracy one year ago today.
The People's Movement of 2006 required great sacrifices and was a triumph for the people of Nepal. The United States is proud to stand with the people of Nepal as they move forward on a path to a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic future.
To ensure a stable and secure future, we urge all parties involved in Jana Aandolan II to meet their commitments to peace and democracy. We also welcome efforts to engage marginalized communities to enlist their support and participation in Nepal's democratic transition
