CONSULAR OPERATIONS RESUMING, AMERICAN CENTER REOPENS MAY 1
April 28, 2006
The U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section will provide certain services as of May 1 and will return to full operations by May 15. The American Center Library also will reopen on May 1. Both the Consular Section and Library are located in the Yak & Yeti Complex (west wing). They were closed April 19 because of unstable security conditions in Kathmandu.
Nepali visa applicants who have scheduled interviews at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi before May 15 are encouraged to keep those appointments. The Embassy in New Delhi will continue serving Nepali visa applicants through that date. After the Consular Section in Kathmandu was closed, Nepalis had been directed to apply for visas in New Delhi.
The Nabil Bank, Maharajgunj branch, will begin scheduling non-immigrant visa appointments on May 1. Interviews will begin on May 15. The Consular Section will contact persons earlier scheduled for interviews who were unable to be interviewed because the section closed and who have not yet been interviewed in New Delhi. Applicants with interviews scheduled for August in New Delhi may now go to Nabil Bank, Maharajgunj branch, to schedule a new appointment date at the Consular Section in Kathmandu.
American citizens needing consular assistance should visit the Consular Section Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., effective immediately.
Diversity Visa (DV) winners with interview dates scheduled for May should contact the Consular Section at 444-5577 as soon as possible, as some DV interview dates may be moved to an earlier time.
Persons who receive treasury checks may appear at the Consular Section any day between May 1 and May 5. Thereafter they should appear on Tuesdays after 2:00 p.m.
Consular Section hours of operation are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The American Center Library is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., also Monday through Friday.
Information about visas and other Consular Section services are available on the Embassy website at http://nepal.usembassy.gov
