Important Security Announcement for American Citizens in Nepal

April 22, 2009

The Young Communist League (YCL), a splinter group of the Maoist Party, has called for a rally in Ratna Park this afternoon at 4pm.  Given the past history of YCL rallies potentially turning violent, the Embassy has directed official Americans to carry their radios and to exercise caution if traveling in the vicinity of Ratna Park this afternoon.   Private American citizens in Nepal are also advised to exercise caution this afternoon and to avoid demonstrations if they come upon them.
