Important Security Announcement for American Citizens in Nepal

On May 23rd 2009, an improvised explosive device was detonated in the Church of the Assumption, a Roman Catholic Church located in Kathmandu.  The blast resulted in two deaths and 14 injured.   Leaflets and other evidence found at the scene point to the possible involvement of a Hindu fundamentalist group in the attack.  The Regional Security Office of the U.S. Embassy strongly recommends American citizens avoid large religious or prayer gatherings pending the conclusion of the ongoing criminal investigation by the Nepali Police.
